About

Having 300+ days of sunshine the Algarve offers great conditions for the horticulture industry.
Since 2010 Dengun has been delivering custom productivity management solutions for various international players in the industry. ManageCrop offers an integrated solution with mobile & web technology to help supervisors & managers to use real time data to optimise the productivity of field activity. 

Dengun was asked to help develop a custom platform with web and mobile apps for Hubel, a major Portuguese player in the agriculture industry, to replace paperwork and spreadsheets with mobile apps, NFC chips and real time dashboards. With it ManageCrop was born and became a mobile innovation showcase for Vodafone.

With the software provided by Dengun we're able to continue and optimise our efforts to gather data efficiently and using it to optimise our field activities. We expect to be able to continue to reduce labour costs with another 5-10% in the coming years.

AGRICULTURE PRODUCTION MANAGER

Challenge

The biggest challenge was to create a method that could calculate and record the productivity of a worker in real-time. 

Having product development and market presence increase in mind, it was necessary to optimize the agricultural production. Monitoring the level of productivity of each worker was a hard task and beyond spreadsheets and charts, Hubel did not have any tool that was able to collect, analyse and manage data referring to workers, crops and products. They needed a real time software to keep track and tweak every detail of their production processes.

Involvement

A web-app was created and named ManageCrop. It was necessary to build a new server to work in sync with the application, in order for each team leader to register the production of each worker and get a production report in real time.
The drainage and reservoir modules were the first ones to be included, this allowed to optimize the processes of production for example: depending on the levels of the reservoir the application informs the exact quantities of fertilizer that need to be added in order to get the best production ratio.
NFC (Near Field Communication) cards were given to each worker. With this technology team leaders could know what task each worker was assigned to and the time that that same task was accomplished. Optimizing and making team management less stressful. The ManageCrop application was the answer that made Hubel leave spreadsheets behind and boost their production with an everyday tool capable of delivering data in real time.
