In many cases, this is enough to increase feelings such as frustration or anguish, which can be a source of psychological diseases such as depression, anxiety, burnout, among others.
Taking this into account, companies need to develop a different view of mental health and adopt measures that meet the needs in various aspects – mainly in the remuneration policy and in the physical and psychological working conditions that are offered to teams.
“A healthy work environment is one in which workers and managers collaborate to use a process of continuous improvement to protect and promote the safety, health and well-being of all workers and for the sustainability of the work environment.”
For the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health also encompasses the state of well-being in which each individual realizes their own potential, can cope with life’s challenges, can work productively and still contribute to their community.
According to what was published in the document “Healthy Work Environments: WHO foundations and models” (2010), the main reason is the need for organizations to become promoters of well-being, subdivided into four aspects: ethical, economic, legal, and humanitarian.
It is common for some companies and people to use these two terms synonymously, but although they are related, there are differences.
Mental health encompasses a more fixed state of the individual. Through it, we can highlight the presence of disorders that must be diagnosed by psychologists or psychiatrists, such as depression and anxiety, for example. Emotional health is focused on how a person understands and deals with their emotions constantly. That is, it concerns the variations that we have daily, and not necessarily a specific diagnosis.
One of the big questions that can arise after knowing this information is: how do I know if my team’s well-being is compromised?
Here are some signs of poor emotional health that HR professionals, leaders, and even co-workers may observe daily. They are:
In the hybrid or remote work scenarios, such points can also be observed through:
The indicators mentioned above can appear in different intensities, so a more personalized and detailed analysis is necessary to be able to determine whether these factors are being caused by agents that are internal or external to the company, and how to solve them in the most appropriate way.
Activities aimed at improving the organizational climate, such as games, group dynamics, coffee breaks and online or face-to-face meetings
Remember, a team with stable emotional health presents an effective improvement in productivity and interpersonal relationships. As a result, members of this team work in a more integrated way, developing as professionals and together with the company and colleagues. Therefore, the care of mental and emotional health is vital for the achievement of goals and an excellent interaction among all those present in the organization.
