Organized throughout several Hubs worldwide, the Flutter community held the first International Flutter hackathon on Saturday, June the 1st, with Dengun taking part in Lisbon's Hub.
Our goal throughout this event was to join the Flutter community and also to create a mobile app fully developed using the Flutter Framework.
But what is Flutter?
Developed by Google and used by organizations throughout the world such as Alibaba and Tencent, Flutter is a portable UI toolkit that is used for building beautiful and natively-compiled mobile, web, and desktop applications from a single codebase. With Flutter, any developer is able to build native interfaces in a matter of minutes.
As our Mobile development team has been recently working on several Flutter related projects, we decided to put our experience and ideas to the test and take this opportunity to build a mobile app that would bring the Flutter community together.
Serving as a platform to help the Flutter community find / create events, workshops and talks, our aim was to develop an app where the user could easily create a service according to a specific category (tutoring, talks, workshops) while also being able to track and register both their attendees and subscribers.
Additionally, this app was also built to serve as a news provider for not only just Flutter related events, but also coding / programming in general.
Closing the event, our project was chosen by the Flutter community as the representative for the Lisbon Hub - an announcement that was at the time live-streamed to all of the other Hubs throughout the world.
After travelling all the way to Lisbon (that same day) and the 8 hours of intense programming and brainstorming that followed, we were able to create an awesome app! Kudos to our team!
As a whole, this event was an extremely positive experience. Not only were we able to discuss a lot of interesting topics, we also exchanged a tonne of ideas with the Flutter community.
We would like to thank the Flutter Portugal organization for hosting the event and all of the Portuguese Flutter community for their support. To find out more about the Hackathon, please visit the flutterhackathon.com website or @FlutterPortugal on Twitter.
See you all at the next event!
