What is Brand Identity

A brand identity is the visual and emotional representation of a brand. A brand identity includes a number of key elements. Logo, Color Scheme, Messaging Typography, and Brandwork that all work together with the help of a brand style guide and design assets.


All the elements of a well-built brand are carefully crafted to evoke specific feelings and associations in the minds of customers.

How it works

We kick every project off with a candid, casual get-to-know-you process. There’s no single magic question that unlocks the perfect brand. Instead, our goal is simply to hear from each key stakeholder to understand as much as we can about your brand, your individual perspective, and all your various needs, wants, goals, and expectations for our work together.

We’ll talk about what feels right for this new brand, and use the final choices as an ongoing reference throughout our creative process.

When building out a new brand, we work hard to make sure each identity option has both strength and flexibility. To that goal, before we share anything with you, we put each new brand option to work, designing out a few relevant sample executions that show the interactions between all the elements of a new identity—logo, colors, typography, example copywriting, design elements, etc.

Presentation

A typical branding project includes 2-3 identity directions. Rather than aiming for quantity, we go for depth, ensuring each option will truly be able to meet your needs. So we’ll present logos, identity elements, and brandwork all together. Ideally, we’ll share it with all your key stakeholders at once so that we can gather everyone’s initial thoughts and gut reactions.

Brand rollout

Once we have brand approval, it’s time to share it with the world. For a typical identity project, we’ll deliver all kinds of logo files, any key design assets we created during the branding process, and a style guide. Often, this is also when we start kicking off additional design projects—like a website, branded merch, print materials, and digital templates.
